Greek Mediterranean with a twist of Beachy and Shabby Chic!

Well I would like to say that I have been keeping everything balanced, but that is sooo not true!  The busier I become with work, the more my poor blog is neglected :(  So I thought a little bit lately and decided that even if I don't have a ton of time to make all of my pics for the blog look as bright and clear as I regularly would, it would still be fun to share them with you so that you can follow along on some of the projects with me.

So here's to blogging more and worrying less about making it so perfect ;)

The month of October has completely flown by in the blink of an eye!  It may have something to do with a family trip that we took for 10 days.  Bam, Goodbye October and Halloween Decorating!  We are the biggest Halloween and Christmas decorators I know.  Halloween to my husband is better than Christmas, better than his birthday, and dare I say it, better than our Anniversary ;)  He would say no, but he knows it's true.  So we are in Halloween morning around here!  There are some sad pumpkins on the porch yelling "Carve Me, Carve Me."

We did hit the pumkin patch Saturday morning with the kids, so at least we are not complete Halloween savages.

So a huge chunk out of the month, but I am back up and running with work.

Just before we left for vacation, I got a call from a client that was looking for assistance to transform her home into a Greek Mediterranean Style Oasis with some touches of the Beach and for good measure, a little shabby chic eclectic mix.

Can that all be mixed together?  Of course it can: GreekMedBeachShab Chic.   See, that wasn't so hard was it?

Here are a few examples of the Greek Mediterranean Style...

Now the house itself is Very Old, but with that sometimes comes a TON of character.  Fortunately for us, this home has a lot of it.  So we will use that to our advantage and see what we can come up with.

Tomorrow starts Demo Day.  Old tile is coming up in the Den and Kitchen to make way for new hand scraped laminate flooring.  The fireplace is getting overhauled.  Ceiling lights are turning from frog lights to more hidden recessed lights and a bunch of other great changes are to come after that.

I will keep you posted along the way with this project and others that I am working on.

Ahead this week: More on the demo and before pictures and some design boards to share on my client Jen's Living and Dining Room.

See ya soon,

Kitchen Remodel Design with Touches of Industrial and Eclectic Accents

This week I finished up the plans on a Kitchen Renovation that is shore to have the homeowners wanting to sit down for a relaxing dinner with the family. This project came about when I was contacted by Adrienne to help her bring her dream kitchen into reality.  She loved contemporary kitchen design and wanted to lighten up the space.  For Adrienne, the kitchen is the hub of her home.  The place, she told me, where she spends so much of her time cooking and spending time with her husband and kids!  So one thing was for sure, I needed to make it feel brighter, open, and cozy.  Well that's more like three things, but still.

So with ideas rattling around in my head for the type of kitchen I thought Adrienne and her family would love, these are the initial design boards I created...

I wanted the space to feel fresh, but I knew it needed touches of  INDUSTRIAL and ECLECTIC accents.

To evoke that feel, I found a mix of finishes brought in by the dining table, lighting, rug, chairs, and tile for the back splash to name a few.

The wash on this table adds a lot of character while the design makes it feel like a really substantial piece.
I'm just sayin, "I'm jealous over this table."  I feel a slight love affair coming on!

The rug has a great diamond pattern and is a great shade of Indigo.  The lighter creams of the diamonds will bring in the wall color.

I can never stress enough the effect that lighting has on a space!  The mood in a room can change just by the perfect light.

Eclipse Chandelier
This chandelier is mesmerizing the way the light bounces off the seeded glass!

AND

to pair with it, I chose two drop pendant lights in the same finish and also with the seeded glass.

Kendall Seeded Glass...

For the back splash in the kitchen, I went with a creamy tile that will look great in the herringbone pattern.

Here's a look at a few of the Before Photos I took when I met with Adrienne...

The flooring will come out to make way for new wood floors.

The fridge will slide down and the pantry door area will come out to make room for built in pantry cabinets to the right and more cabinetry and a desk top area on the left.

The new cabinetry will have recessed panel doors and brushed nickel hardware.

This is the dining area of the kitchen, where the new table, chairs, chandelier and rug will go.

I have one of the funnest jobs ever!  Stay tuned to see the updates and finished project.

Global Sun room Design Board

Working with clients to transform their homes is definitely the most exciting job I can ask for!  It allows me to channel all of my creativity into one space and bring the ideas that rattle around my head to life.  I have been dying to create this design board! Just a fun relaxing space.  It was music to my ears when my client said, "maybe we can do some insect art in the space."  You may be thinking gross, but I was thinking "PERFECT."

For me, adding fun or interesting touches brings a space from pretty or cozy to really Unique.

Here is the Design Board I created for Jen's Sun room...

I decided to go with a Navy and Orange color scheme because the adjoining family room is Navy and we are bringing in orange accents for that area, so it only seemed a natural fit to continue the color in here.

Let's take a closer look at some of the pieces...

Urban Home Natural Banana Core Ottoman

Liberty Furniture 139-BK202 Farmhouse Casual Dining Leaning Bookcase Traditional Furniture

'Pinebrook' Natural Pine Rectangular End Table

Hampton Barrel Side Table

Threshold™ Rope Print Decorative Pillow - Orange
I found some great pieces to keep the space airy yet masculine.

When we first went into this space, my client had shared that this was the room that her husband and dog hung out in.  The ONE place that the dog was allowed up on the couch.  So they had bonding time just relaxing in there. And the couch that was in there, Well...

As Jen put it, "It has to go."  Her hubby thought it was so comfy, so that was his one criteria for the new sofa.

Before I share the Before photos I took of the space, let me mention, that this room has SO MUCH character to begin with.  All the windows, the trim work, the archway, the brick wall.  I mean it's ridiculous how cool and swanky this space is even before the furnishings and accessories come in. Not to mention the color on the walls that we are keeping is my favorite!  I am biased though, my house is pretty much the same color ;-)

Here a some of the Before's of the Space...

There you are comfy, slouchy couch who can't even hold on to your cushion so you just toss him on the floor.  So sad :(   It is time for you to move on!

A tripod floor lamp that we will be keeping in the space.

The brick work is amazing and the little archways with the railings inside are AWESOME!  I could totally see myself here as a kid playing a princess in a castle or a bank teller through the arch there.  Come on didn't we all play bank teller as a kid?

The ladder bookshelf will go on the right hand side of this wall, while the insect artwork goes on the left hand side of the wall.

We may have to hold on to the globe for the bookshelf, after all we are trying to keep a Global feel, get it!  No?  I am so punny?  ;-)

It's late as I right this post so it may just be one of those moments that I think I'm hilarious, when actually I'm overtired.

I love love the archway and the doors and windows!  So pretty!

And here again is the beginning stage of transformation...

I can't wait to see this one come to life!
